YORKSHIRE ARTISAN GIFT SHOP TO OPEN IN BARNSLEY TOWN CENTRE THIS WEEK

August 30, 2023

Made and Found Yorkshire, a collective gift shop that proudly showcases over 25 Yorkshire artisan sellers, is set to open in The Glass Works on Friday.

After starting out in Wakefield six years ago, Made and Found Yorkshire is moving to a new store within The Glass Works – Barnsley town centre’s acclaimed retail, leisure and food & drink hotspot.

Set up by owner of Yorkshire Blankets Victoria Cawthorne, Made and Found Yorkshire aims to celebrate local artisan makers, and sells everything from handmade cards and decorations to candles, blankets, and baby clothes. All the shop’s makers are based in and around Barnsley.

The company is taking an initial six-month lease on a prominent unit within the glass-covered shopping boulevard that runs between Cheapside and The Glass Works Square, with a view to cementing a long-term future in the heart of Barnsley town centre.

Victoria Cawthorne, owner of Made and Found Yorkshire, said:

“We are hugely excited to be moving to Barnsley. We have been really impressed with the recent town centre regeneration and can’t wait to open our new store and play our part.

“Barnsley has a fiercely independent and creative personality, so we think we’re a great fit for the town and are confident of a long and successful future here.

“We’re all about encouraging local shoppers to support local, and we champion some of the very best designers, makers and artists that Barnsley and Yorkshire have to offer.”

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council added:

“We’re keen to try and strike the right balance between local independent occupiers and national brands, both in The Glass Works and wider town centre.

“Made and Found Yorkshire is a lovely co-operative offer, providing a literal shop window for many great Yorkshire artisans that simply don’t have the time or financial resource to open a shop of their own on the high street.

“From a Barnsley point of view, we’re also delighted to see entrepreneurs from other cities and towns starting to take notice of our recent successes and making the commitment to build up their businesses here.”

Made and Found Yorkshire will open its doors to the public at 9.30am on Friday 1st September.
