The Glass Works is the future vision for Barnsley’s town centre, offering exciting ways for the community to connect, shop, and discover new leisure activities and business opportunities.

The historic Barnsley Market- part of the opening phase of the project – opened in autumn 2018, followed by the new state-of-the-art Library @ the Lightbox which opened its doors in July 2019.

Market Kitchen – the scheme’s independent food court – is due to open this autumn.

The Glass Works also comprises of 25 shops, seven restaurants, a 13-screen Cineworld Cinema and Superbowl UK, plus up to 670 car parking spaces.

The Library @ The Lightbox is a new innovative community space, offering activities for all ages with quiet zones for study and reflection that opened July 2019. Featuring a striking glass design which provides a stunning focal point for the town centre. The library is lighting up the centre of Barnsley, with its striking glass design providing a stunning focal point for the town.

MARKET KITCHEN IS LOCATED ON THE UPPER FLOOR OF BARNSLEY MARKETS. IT PROVIDES A BRAND-NEW EATING EXPERIENCE FOR BARNSLEY.

Market Kitchen officially opened in October 2019. Three market cafés, which continue serve up classic English breakfasts and traditional favourites, were joined by an exciting range of street food outlets offering a wide choice of cuisine – including Thai, Indian and Balkan food. There’s also a dessert specialist, coffee house and a fully-licences bar to complete the new offer.
