September 1, 2021

At least 30 jobs are being created in Barnsley as Superbowl UK prepares to open in The Glass Works development.

The Glass Works, the new retail and leisure destination at the heart of Barnsley Town Centre, will be opening in phases over the coming months.

The Glass Works Square opens on 9 September and Superbowl UK is aiming to open its exciting new family venue in early October. Cineworld’s state-of-the-art 13 screen multiplex will open early next year.

Superbowl UK is now looking for a mix of full time and part time staff to run Barnsley’s new 10-pin bowling and family games centre, which will also include SEGA Prize Zone Amusement Arcades and bar, and Crazy Club Soft Play.

“The fit-out is progressing really well and we’re now looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join the team,” said Superbowl UK marketing spokesperson George Smith.

“There’s a variety of vacancies available, ranging from venue managers to welcome hosts, cleaners, technicians and team members. We invest in both our team and the unique environments we create. Superbowl UK is really pleased to help create local jobs and over the next few weeks, as we put the finishing touches to venue, we’ll also be using local tradespeople and suppliers.”

This autumn promises an exciting calendar of activity in the town centre, with new stores opening, visitor events being finalised and existing attractions such as Barnsley Markets, Market Kitchen and Library @ The Lightbox continuing to gather momentum after numerous lockdowns.

Plans are under way to host regular community and cultural events within The Glass Works Square – such as performances, food festivals and the return of Bright Nights in November.

The new public space will also be home to Barnsley’s acclaimed Covid memorial sculpture, which received approval earlier this summer and celebrates the unsung heroes of the pandemic.

The first new openings, which will take place on 9 September, will see Next, TK Maxx and Sports Direct (with USC) unveil their brand-new Barnsley stores, with recent signing Flannels anticipated to open very soon.

The Fragrance Shop, another new addition to The Glass Works, will officially open its store on Friday 24 September. Established in 1994, The Fragrance Shop is the UK’s largest independent fragrance retailer. It has more than 200 stores across the UK.
