BARNSLEY MARKET 775th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE FOR BARNSLEY’S HISTORIC MARKET
Barnsley Market, one of the oldest and most iconic markets in the country, is set to celebrate its 775TH anniversary, dating back to the royal charter bestowed by King Henry III in 1249. The significant milestone will be celebrated through a commemorative exhibition which promises a journey through the market’s rich history and its enduring significance in the community.
Opening to the public on Tuesday 6th February, the Barnsley Market 775th Anniversary Celebration will feature an immersive exhibition that showcases historical documents, images, videos and artifacts, providing a glimpse into the market’s 775-year legacy. There will be entertainment on the opening day itself including a town crier, speeches, a bespoke land art creation, and a ceremonial ringing of the historic market bell from 1:30 pm.
The exhibition will be on display within Barnsley Market for a month, allowing visitors to explore the history of Barnsley Market. Plus, an interactive trail for children and families, making it a fun and education experience for all.
