TWO NEW BARS TO OPEN IN THE GLASS WORKS THIS YEAR

September 23, 2021

Barnsley Council and their development partner, Queensberry, have announced that two stylish new bars have signed up to The Glass Works and are set to open in December – building on Barnsley’s already thriving food & drink scene.

The new venues are from True Independent Group (TiG), who also run the popular Cucina Sky Lounge in Market Kitchen, BARiSTA coffee shop and Cucina Bar in Penistone, and The Works – Yorkshire’s first life space with exquisite cocktail lounge, coming soon to Burlington Arcade.

The largest of the two venues, SALT ROCK, will be located in the new building to the north of The Glass Works Square, sitting on the corner between Eldon Street and Kendray Street. This exciting day-to-night venue will serve quality local and continental food alongside specialist cocktails throughout the day and late into the night.

The second venue, BLACK & WHiTE, will be located alongside Coffee Boy with its entrance on May Day Green. This small and elegant bar will boast over 100 wines on its menu, which can be enjoyed with great tapas – all made from locally sourced produce.

The announcements are another example of the confidence that is spreading through the town centre currently, with new tenants encouraged by the town’s regeneration, rejuvenated local economy and strong post-Covid footfall figures.

The exact opening dates for the two new venues will be released later this year. The TiG team are also lining up a speakeasy-style bar for Barnsley called Long iSLAND. Although in true speakeasy fashion, details are being kept secret for now!

Matthew Crisp, Managing Director of TiG, commented:

“We are delighted to be investing in Barnsley – a town that really is on the up. Our new venues in The Glass Works will open before Christmas and we are confident they will take Barnsley’s nightlife to a new level – bringing a more refined and sophisticated offer right into the heart of the town.

“Our ambition is to deliver venues of undeniable quality for the people of Barnsley. As shown with Cucina Sky Lounge in Market Kitchen, our fit-outs are second to none and we believe the new bars will be up there with anything the big cities have to offer.”

Alex Hyams, Senior Leasing Manager, Queensberry, added:

“Interest in Barnsley and The Glass Works remains strong. We are delighted with these latest deals, which see a regional operator bring two fresh and contemporary concepts to The Glass Works Square. We continue to work hard to attract more high-quality occupiers to the town and will be making some exciting announcements in the weeks and months ahead.”

Earlier this month, Barnsley’s newest public space – The Glass Works Square – opened alongside news stores for TK Maxx, Next and Sports Direct, kickstarting a phased opening of the retail and leisure development.

The Fragrance Shop will open this Friday and Superbowl UK’s eagerly anticipated opening has been officially scheduled for 15 October.
