The Glass Works – part of the ongoing regeneration of Barnsley town centre – has been highly commended at a prestigious awards ceremony.
The scheme was highly commended in the Planning Delivery category at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Yorkshire Awards for Planning Excellence at an online event earlier today (Tuesday 17 November).
The commendation for The Glass Works highlights the significant positive impact planning and planners working on the scheme have had on the quality of life, communities, economy and environment in the town centre.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “It’s great to see that The Glass Works has been highly commended at such a prestigious awards ceremony like the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence.
“We’re proud of what we have already and continue to achieve with The Glass Works. Our planning team have done a terrific job on the scheme so far and this commendation is testament to their considerable skills which have allowed the scheme to progress as well as it has.”
The Glass Works – due to open in September 2021 – will feature 25 shops, seven family restaurants, 13-screen Cineworld cinema and a Superbowl UK complete with bowling alley, laser quest and soft play.
The regeneration is already home to Barnsley Market, independent food court Market Kitchen and community hub Library @ the Lightbox.
A refurbished public realm and new pedestrian bridge will complete the offer.
